Given things like awful gender ratios on dating apps, increased monetization efforts, reduced free features, more ambiguous (useless) bells and whistles, people are growing frustrated with dating apps and are trying anything to get an edge. 

AI is everywhere and with all new technology, the earliest adopters are usually scammers and people on dating apps. A lot of folks hate dating apps (and rightfully so) and while many have abandoned apps altogether, there is a growing population of folks who are dabbling with AI tools to improve their dating profile photos and bios (prompts).

Prior to AI, people would try a variety of ways to optimize profiles and photos. They would ask friends, they would do their own indirect A/B tests on dating apps (to see what got more likes) or they would ask strangers (either through internet forums) or professional profile review services.

Online reviews were always hit or miss (usually the latter) as it felt like the blind leading the blind or people just focused on one area i.e. photos but ignored things like app choice, bios, messages, lifestyle choices, strategy, filters, timing and more.

AI dating profile review services focus on a few areas – photos, profiles (prompts, bios) and messages. Folks (mostly men, it’s always men) are looking to get an edge on dating apps given the mass exodus of women on apps over the years. A lot of men feel at a disadvantage if they don’t use some AI services because they think everyone is using them (namely their competition).

A lot of these AI dating tools look at data across various sources (apps, forums) and use feedback tools to gather intelligence on recommendations. Many of the tools that focus on photos look for things that are very superficial and technical like clarity, blurriness, sunglasses, and some might even look at facial expressions.

These tools might do a decent job at analyzing one photo but they rarely do a decent job at assessing a group of photos, prioritizing them, making recommendations on what to keep, what to update/replace and how they might be viewed by others.

If you organize your dating profile based on scores alone, it can to no change or worse results. Similarly, any possible gains from photo improvements can easily be offset by boring, vague profiles, unrealistic expectations, low-effort messages and the like.

Should You Use AI Dating Reviews, Tools?

I don’t think people should use these tools. A lot of them make bold claims yet if you look up reviews online via reddit and other platforms that are harder to mask bad reviews, you will see that results can be mixed.

The other big concern is privacy. Some tools don’t make it clear that their photos could be used in marketing collateral, or used as case studies for showing before and after results. Some of you may not care but others view this is as a huge privacy concern.

If you are looking to analyze just one component of your dating efforts, making mild improvements in one area can be offset by all the other components needed to do well on dating apps. The old saying is true: you are only as attractive as your worst photo. Take that with a grain on salt.

Even if the tools make the right recommendations, it can take time to see results depending on how long you have been on the apps, how many people have seen your profile, how many people have yet to see your profile and how similar your updated profile is to your old profile. 

Only focusing on what you want, think deserve is one of the biggest mistakes men and women make on dating apps. They fail to ignore things like their competition, what the other person desires, and things like vibe and chemistry. You can’t always hack your way to results and in places like the Bay Area that rely on tech too much, they are the types that tend to struggle the most.
